Surface Tension

Water molecules at the surface hold each other in a tight, invisible lattice, like a stretched elastic skin over the entire body of water.

Contact & Disruption

The paintbrush tip touches the surface. Paint carries surfactants and binders that immediately weaken the molecular grip at the point of contact.

Marangoni Flow

A tension gradient forms. Water rushes outward from low tension toward high, dragging every pigment particle with it in a radial surge.

Pattern & Rest

The flow decelerates as tension equalises across the surface. Pigment settles exactly where the current left it, locking the pattern in place.
